Teacher of Awe

Madeleine.jpgI first read Wrinkle in Time when I was in 4th grade and it was probably the first science fiction novel I ever read. It was a good choice for the first time out.

Madeleine L'Engle intertwined science and mysticism and made it entertaining. She taught me new big words, like kairos and chronos and tesseract, and led me by the hand into even newer bigger worlds.

Bless you in your passing, Madeleine. May light perpetual shine upon you.

Well said, L. I was surprised and saddened, too, when I saw the news of Madeleine L'Engle's death the other day. Meg is one of my all-time favorite characters (and probably the strongest positive female role model for geeky kids, ever) and L'Engle one of my favorite authors to this day. I love that she allowed Meg to grow up and have a meaningful life beyond her first adventures. All I can add are my thanks and blessings upon her, too.

I saw this and thought of you...
